One question that popped up yesterday was pretty interesting:
Comments
Well, have just saw a repeat of the episode where Homer, Moe and Barney join the navy, and command a sub (on the chart shown) Homer hits the comapss on the map then heads into Russian waters, after leaving obviously the west coast of the states, where Springfield Harbour was shown to be located. I have always thought they livein either northern California or Washington State, as they have always featured snow capped mountains and ocean in their day to day activities!!!
I've thought about that one too but my hope of being observant were shattered when I later saw that they live in a town where there's now water. I can't remember the episode but there's this one time where they zoom out over springfield and all you see is land. Shame I can't remember it exactly but I remember that it meant a big inconsistency.
My conclusion after that was they Matt et al. don't want us to ever find out so I sort of gave up.
But then there's the episode where Lisa talks to the Brazillian boy who says something like "I couldn't write to you because I don't know your state" and Lisa replies "Sure you do. You just have to look for all the clues"
Yes, apparently if you look for the clues, you can figure it out. I know they allow the death penalty wherever it is that they are from...
I think its somewere in washington state, because in the episode when edna gets the teacher of the year award and theres a sign that says 2,653 miles to orlando. the only state that is that far from orlando is washington
that is way wrong dude. if you watch the simpsons movie, Ned Flanders says that Ohio, Maine, Nevada, and Kentucky border their state. if they border their state, that has to be the size of half the country.
Well, I'm pretty sure they were just doing that to be funny.
Yes, but that's because Vermont (borders Maine), Pennsylvania (borders Ohio), California (borders Nevada), and Illinois (borders Kentucky), have been some of the longest running guesses as to the true location.
And so it was more a joke. They were basically telling us, but in all reality, they were only telling us what we already knew.
My vote goes to Illinois because Springfield, IL has smoke stacks (like Mr. Burns power plant) looming over the city.
But the more I look at clues and such- I think the Simpson's "Springfield" is a combination of Springfields, as the scenery changes often... leading you different directions.
The joke is probably that everyone is trying to figure out which Springfield this cartoon depicts them living in, when in reality, it's not any particular Springfield. It's just Springfield.
But you must consider the episode in which Homer visits cheers which would lead you to believe massachusetts or the east coast in general.
Its the episode opener is on the couch and then they zoom out to psace this is the link to the you tube vid
http://youtube.com/watch?v=cNV9FEKi9FQ
there is a homer lane and lisa lane and shelbyville in Ill and as well as Chiacago
they live in Ohio. Just telling you retards. WOW!!!!
Yeah, dude, there's more than one Springfield in the US.
.theres more than one springfield retard
LOL
chas ur an idiot
Maybe they live in Kansas. It has a Springfield and a Shelbyville. It also has Ogdenville, Brockway and North Haverbrook.
It also goes along with the episode that they were talking about their congressman. The same one is in Kansas.
they dont live anywhere that exists, thats why they have all the signs that it is a made up place, in the USA
theylive in springfeild massachussetts remeber they made the quike mart there damn are u guys simpsons fans or what?
No that doesn't prove anything. There is a Kwike mart in Colorado
Don't call him an idiot for contributing. At least he gave some info.
okay first trust me they dont live in ohio it doesnt snow enough big man
check out episode "Behind the laughter" from 2000.
It says they live in northern kentucky!
it says their FROM northen kentucky
That episode was just for laughs it was supposed to be them in like a sitcom
y not it snowed in all 50 states this winter.
It snowed in 49/50 states this winter. Florida didn't get hit that day.
ummmm it snows A LOT in ohio this past winter we got 9 inches =0
9 inches? that is nothing compare to Canada, home of real snow men
Yes but nobody's claiming they live in Canada ffs
im nt sure but in the simpsons movie ned said that maine nevada ohio and kentucky border springfield ;o
weeoo go canada...they weren't implying that they lived in canada just that it snows a lot more :)
They live in MO. In "Homer Badman", Abe says "I'll be damned if I recgonize MO" (a joke, seeing as the show never recgonizes the state it's in. Ogdenville is said to be Southeast of Springfield (in real life, Ogdenville, TN is Southeast of Springfield, MO). In "Mr. Plow", the Mr. Plow phone number has a MO area code. Springfield, MO is also west of Mississippi, hence, the KBBL call letters. There is also a Shelbyville South of Springfield, MO.
They cant live in MO because they make a joke saying that there school used to be the worst in missouri...until they moved to this state.
They don't specifically say "this state", they just say "here".
yes chas u are stupid
Of all the answers I've read this is by far the dumbest. Good job idiot.
I AGREE WITH U I THINK THEY LIVE IN ILLINOIS IT HAS TO BE SOMEWHERE IN THE MIDWEST IF THEY GET THAT MUCH SNOW AND I LIVE IN ILLINOIS THERE IS A SPRINGFIELD AND A SHELBYVILLE AND IN THE SHOW U CAN TELL JUST BY THE SEASONAL CHANGES BUT MY NEXT GUESS WOULD BE MISSOURI
Cant be Missouri! In one episode Bart clearly states @But Missouri must be at least a thousand miles away from here'!
Pottsy, London UK
im pretty sure its illinois becouse there is also a shellbyville and in one episode were mr burns ran for govener he ran against the govener that was currently in illinois
Tennesee I'm sure of it
It's Kentucky. I just seen the "Eternal Sunshine of the Simpson Mind" episode, and it zooms out from their house up into space. It zooms out to show that it's directly east of Richmond, and directly south of Polar Bear Park in northern Ontario.
Well... There are several clues in the simpsons in wich state they live in. One they go to Florida for a vacation so it cant be florida. Also in that same episode thay say they have been banned from many states. Arizona wasnt one but homer said that arizona smelled funny so its not arizona. Nor can it be North or South Decoda. It cant be New York because homer said he hated it. When there is the Civil War reinactment Homer faught with the North so it has to be a Northern State. It cant be in Washington DC because they visited there. Also it has to be a state that pemits exicutions. There are many other clues and if u can find them please reply.
Well, I believe they live in Oregon because matt groening grew up in portland and some of the streets are in oregon aswell, but the could also live in georgia because the allways go to atlanta and i come from georgia!!!
good point and in one episode they are in their living room with a map with X's on states so tht they can see what states they have visited. so there must be some tht are not crossed off. idk i havent seen that episode in forever
yah that is true but lisa's head is in the way so u can't see
No you are thinking about the one where they are teaching apu to become a legal immigrant.
I beleive the simpsons are from conecticut because in one episode it shows the house were homer grew up which was in springfeild and in a different episode homer is talking to the cowboy wanabee and says that they have a lot in common, the're both from connecticut
Again, listen to the wording. they're FROM Conneticut. That's not the question we're trying to answer here, we're trying to figure out where they LIVE
in the brnd new episode where people from shelbyville come to springfield, milhouse states: this is Tenisse Titans Tows (football team) there are several more clues that point to tenisse but I can not remember them.
Anywasy, it's tenisee
yeah, i remember that board showing all the states that their banned from. i think they were banned from all but 2, so if they went to florida that episode then the other one must be their home state.
on the board it says they are banned from ALL the states :\ sooo
no they weren't, dude.
in the episode that bart has to join a indian tribe and millhouse has to join the calvary kids at the end every one sings the canadian athem
in the episode that bart has to join a indian tribe and millhouse has to join the calvary kids at the end every one sings the canadian athem

we know the clues we want the ANSWER!
did you seriously say Keneticat?
There was an episode where Lisa cheats on a test and get an A plus plus, so there are going to give her an award and the school will get a grant because of her test scores. But she wants to come clean. But principal Skinner does not want her to tell anyone. So he shows her how bad the school is and he said "this was the worst school in Missouri, so they clothes it down and move it up here.
I FUCKING FOUND IT! Episode 1909 "Eternal moonshine of the simpson mind" At the intro, it zooms out from the couch to an overview of America. The answer: Springfield Illinois.
yea in tht episode its not over illinois its over ohio. . . sorry to burst your bubble
It's Northern Kentucy years ago they told you on the show.Ohio is right across the river Northern Kentucy.
Yup - he's right - it's Illinois. I just called Homer, and he confirmed.
I'm watching that one right now because I thought hmm... where do they live?
that is exactly what i want to find out i remember the episode but i cant find a video showing it
theres an episode where homer starts to smoke medical marijuana which would likely be california. but there is also the possibility of it being in illinois seeing that theres a city in illinois about 2 hours from springfield called shelbyville
I don't know what makes you think he'd have to be in Cali to smoke pot legally. There are medical marijuana laws in a lot of states including Washington, Oregon...Illinois.
There is episode where Homer is watching Mr.Burns house and Moe can not sell them beer until after 12:00 on Sunday. So they all get on Burns boat and go out to Inernational waters. They leave Burns house and get right unto the boat that takes them into International waters.
Yes
There's an episode where fat tony is travelling on I-95.. which is on the east coast. Good guess, but very very wrong. The simpsons live somewhere on the east coast.. there is a town in Connecticut w/ a nuclear power plant, off of 95, and next to Flanders (niantic) CT... id guess they live in CT
That's been my guess for quite sometime now, because I know they don't live that far away New York, or at least it is implied...Also, I think if you follow the clues, you need to find a state with the death penalty. I'm from Canada and I really don't know many of the states all that well in all honesty.
Not far away from New York? I doubt that; in a way. They seem to be near every other place in the US. There's for example the episode where Moe decides to take all his regulars for a part trip to Las Vegas but Homer can't come along because he first has to drop off Bart on a boys camp for disobedients, then he's going to drive and catch up with Moe and the rest. That certainly implies they must live near Nevada too, no?
He was dropping bart off in Oregon only after bart wasnt able to board the airplane... Oregon isnt all that far from Nevada.. when compared to NY to Nevada. Remember the Ms. Plopwells episode where they said the grand prize was a trip to Hawaii... then changed that to Hartford CT? I cant recall any other time Connecticut was mentioned... Nearly every other state was mentioned and bashed. Florida.. .americas wang; Massachusetts.. Taxachusettes; plus MANY others. Also.. if youve ever watched Futurama, theres an episode where they follow Beck around in their VW van... They show an ariel map of the US... start their tour from?? Good Ol' Connecticut (bridgeport area actually) so groening has some attraction to Connecticut, at least in my opinion anyways.
HOW DO YOU KNOW IT WAS BRIDGEPORT? DID THE MAP SAY BRIDGEPORT? IT WAS PROBABLY SPRINGFIELD, MASSACHUSETTS!
Holy crap. you people are f*&king morons! It was A MAP. Thats how i know. I know what the coast line of connecticut looks like. AND the start position of the map was at the mouth of the f*&king housatonic river and Long Island Sound. It would be hard to confuse mass. for ct on a map. You my friend are probably the stupidest person ive encountered this year. Congrats! Please, dont reply to my posts w/ nonsensical dribble, it's quite annoying.
good points!!
what's a spam robot? if you don't mind sharing, that is if you %^&king know?
tanx, Mark
havent you fuckheads got any thing better to do go get a job or a life fuck u dicks r morons.
jesus people these days fuck heads.
p.s especially u ur possible the biggest loser of all fuck tard
well considering you have the time to make fun of people on Ask Yahoo, you are the fuckhead with no life
Homer and ned drove to vegas in less than a day, there was a prize trip to ct, theres no springfield in ct or electric chair. And there's no reason to bee a jack*ss
screw u
Look At this guy.. HAHAHH... Simple peolpe get so mad. Its like monkeys in the zoo, if you make a funny face they start throwing poo! lol
It was Springfield Missouri. In the episode where the Simpsons get a sattelite, the beam is coming from the middle of the U.S. so it can't be Massachusettes. And in the news paper, there was a poll on whether the Simpsons were from Illinois or Missouri (Missouri won). So there you have it.
I collected info this summer (2007) to figure it out. I came up with Utah, just south of Salt Lake City. But then there was the area code episode. I think it was 636 (?). Any way, the area code was from Missouri. I was disappointed. That clue was tooooo easyyy.... (insert frowny face here)
I know what you mean but Bart wants to RUNAWAY to Utah so I think Missouri it is
no it cant be Missouri...remember in 'homer badman' where he peeled the gummi Venus off the babysitters butt and was accused of social harassment? In that, Grandpa puts up a flag with fewer stars, and says, "I'll be deep in the cold ground before i recognise Missouri". But, perhaps that reinforces its truth, could be an ironic statement...anyway, there's my two cents.
i dont think so, in lisa gets an A, superintendant chalmers says that the school was voted most delapidated in all of missouri, and then lisa and skinner look in disbelief, and then chalmers says thats why it was shut down and moved here brick by brick
There is an episode where they say specifically that springfield is 1000 miles away from branson, missouri. That is a a big clue no?
its not Connecticut. Marge asks lisa what she is doing in the "nutmeg state". that is connecticut. She wouldnt be asking and being surprised if they all already lived there.
I'm watching the episode right now where they zoom out from there home. It's obviously one of the states next the west side of the great lakes. I think it is as simple as Illinois. Here's the link:
http://surfthechannel.com/info/television/The_Simpsons/38354/S19E9.html?aid=23614.
The episode is called:
Episode Title: Eternal Moonshine of the Simpson Mind
Season: 19
Episode: 9
Spread the word. All someone has to do is pause it and look. The states are outlined and everything. Later
Check out episode"behind the laughter" for 2000.
the narrator in this episode says that the future looks better for this northern kentucky family.
Thank You sombody hear besides me pays attention
In reruns they change the state they're from
Springfield isn't in a state. It is supposed to represent a collaboration of all American states. This has been explained time and time again. It's fun to guess, but don't get so uptight about something created specifically to not be real. (as evidence- the state flag, the state motto, the surrounding towns, the street names, the references to the bordering states which are on opposite corners of the country). Calm down
It was Springfield Missouri. In the episode where the Simpsons get a sattelite, the beam is coming from the middle of the U.S. so it can't be Massachusettes. And in the news paper, there was a poll on whether the Simpsons were from Illinois or Missouri (Missouri won). So there you have it.
It IS Missouri. In the episode where Homer starts the security company Springshield, the phone number in the commercial in the show has the area code 636, which is Missouri's.
It can't be missouri because in one episode chalmers says that the school was the worst school in missouri until it was dismantled brick by brick and moved to springfield. Sorry. I think it's in illinois.
in the episode where homer and bart drive to the outward bound school he says " i bet their from massachusetes. did you know its legal there to marry your son?"
and in the episode about revenge, it says homer and the rich texan are both from connecticut
no it says 100 miles till vegas
they live near new york I think because in 1 eppisode I just watched Bart is a pop star and ther singine on a aircraft carier but the driver is mad and turns on the engines and they start moving but in like a few seconds they can see the empire state building. then millhouse says " the empire state building! that means were in.... uhhhh"
but when you look at other clues, there is the episode where homer does his cannonball act. in that episode he has to chose between heading to cincinatti(which is in ohio) or a nude beach. there are also several other clues leading to ohio such as: springfield being a city in ohio, and ohio having a nuclear reactor.
The name "Springfield" isnt the actual name of the city they hail from. There are many many clues that suggest that springfield is close to or in Connecticut. And you are very wrong.. they have a choice to go to either Cincinatti or Cleveland... they choose NEITHER and turn around. They definately DO NOT live in Ohio. Nice try... watch your episodes a little more carefully. ;) Name another episode where they mention Ohio or lead you to believe thats its in Ohio... There really arent any, except when marge says "Springfield, Oh HI ya Maude"... Read my posts.. I've given several promising leads to my conclusion.. Ive given it years and years of thought.
I saw a episode today where Marge gave her address on the phone and she clearly said Springfield, Ohio.
On the phone with Vincent Price's recorded message, She didn't say "Springfield, Ohio".. she said "Springfield, Oh Hi ya Maude" talking to Maude Flanders. I think you didnt "clearly" hear what Marge actually said. Download the episode and watch it again... "Sunday, Cruddy Sunday", Season 10, Episode 12.
No she said
"Springfield O..hiya Maude" (As Maude walked in.
yes, thats true ,ive seen that episode. well i have seen one episodes that the character covers the state where springfield is in .it was that episode where president bush moves in in front of the simpsons' house.when the police guard asked flanders if he could see his license and he put his thumb over the state name. by the,i don't think its in missouri because i dont think it snow in missouri.P.S. awesome series, matt groening
I am not sure where they live but as sound logic as this may be, Ohio is not the only state that starts with O, many have pointed to Oregon as well
Apu: He is the benevolent and enlightened president and C.E.O. of Kwik-E-Mart -- and in Ohio, Stop-O-Mart. He is the one we must ask for my job back.
then why the fuck didn't you tell us what episode it was, bullshitter.
No need for profanity, computer gangsta. The episode is "Sunday, Cruddy Sunday". And to Mr. Anonymous, youre saying something I already said. You get no credit. And Id also like to add that in one of the new episodes, "Revenge Is A Dish Best Served Three Times", the Texan says about him and Homer that have something in common and theyre both from Connecticut.
I ha seen the same episode with it being mississippi
maybe Homer is from Connecticut but where does the family live is the question. Not where homers born. Sowwie.
im with you man. they do say that. and i do believe that homer has lived in springfield his whole life.
No, she said "...Springfield, Oh hi Maud!"
what episode?
you said they turn around but it never said that do not live in ohio, maybe they were just there they never said that they left the state
Dude, they dont live in Ohio. If anything (other than Connecticut) they live in Oregon (Matt Gs homestate).
geez.... ionno, but ""Springfield, Oh HI ya" [Maude not withstanding] sure sounds like a balls-to-the-wall clue, to me!
sure does
I just watched an episode last night about behind the scenes with the simpsons. At the end of the show the narrator said, " So whats next for this north Kentuckian family." Is this correct?
On one of the episodes the simpsons go to a air show and in the air force base there is a hanger 18 with a alien in it. This is refering to the mysterious hanger 18 at wright patterson air force base in OHIO. The SIMPSONS are from OHIO
Maybe they just put a bunch of different
landmarks out of each state to keep it going! There from every state omg! How is that possible? Its a cartoon people.
But i still wonder myself from time to time.
i completely agree with samson. they just want to keep us guessing about the state while they have a good laugh about it at the studio.
wow dude ur a fucking loser
yeah but in the episode where Homer gets a job as a pinmonkey, he and Marge celebrate by taking a walk on the beach
Lake Erie is on Ohio's northern border- lots of beach there.
Later
I remember an episode where they go to "Capital City" meaning they dont live in the capital. Doesnt that mean they dont live in IL?
yeah but homer takes out mr burns yaght, into international waters!!!
On one episode Homer lost his wedding ring and said he threw it in Lake Michigan.
No No No they live in Utah, you might wonder why? I just know
Can't be Utah Bart gets married to a pregnat girl in Utah because the marriage laws are looser.
So from what everyone is saying about the clues and the fact that the episodes mention surrounding states of this location, marge using the "hi ya maud" which sound like the infamous hi y'all, the episode were the Shelby villain s insult the Springfield folk then point their finger while hooting "who who who" all convince me that it is Kentucky. The scenes where they are in a large body of water, the factories, the Bible Belt indications, the episode with shelbyville and Springfield all of this can be found in the blue grass state around Louisville and The Who who who from shelbyville matches too for the neighboring houser state also has a shelbyville. This along with the surrounding states and the other clues you have mentioned as well as many of the characters clues. I'm convinced.
It's not CT, in the episode where they are on a wife swaping reality show, lisa takes a helicopter to the house where Marge is staying and when Marge answers the door, she says, "Lisa! what are you doing in the nutmeg state?" The nutmeg state is Connecticut, whay would marge be surprised and ask why Lisa was in the nutmeg state if they really already lived there?
In one episode, I can't remember which, Marge tells Homer that "the family should go on a vacation south of the border" impliing Mexico. But, Homer responds with "We're going to Kentucky" therefor they obviously border along northern Kentucky. The only states that are along Kentucky's northern border are Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio- Must be one of these states....and not any of the coastal states.
Homer and family live in the town of Springfield. But, according to The Simpsons Archive, there are at least 71 nonfictional Springfields in 36 states around the country. This has left fans scouring the 350-plus episodes for clues to the town's exact location. Considering the enormous number of place names and geographical features referenced, this requires Ph.D.-level research. Many believe the show is set in Oregon, as creator Matt Groening grew up in Portland and many of the characters share names with that city's streets.
Tantalizingly, in the "Behind the Laughter" episode, the Simpsons are referred to as "a northern Kentucky family." The Simpsons Archive, however, explains that this episode treats the family as sitcom actors playing the parts of characters living outside the Springfield universe, and "really shouldn't be taken seriously." Plus, the location was actually changed in reruns. Other popular guesses include Ohio and Illinois. Former Simpsons director David Silverman once said the show was set in the fictional state of North Takoma.
In a 2004 Austin Chronicle article, a publicist for the show comments: "Matt had the Simpsons live in Springfield because it was the most common city name in the U.S. The writers 'toy' with the state location constantly, (thus) there is no specified state...."
the clue is from the writer not the director the closest nuclear reactor to the state of Oregon is probably in S.E.Washington if the writer grew up around Portland he might have modeled the town after tri-cities WA. but when I've seen the topical view of Springfield it looks like lake Michigan to me any cities or states that want to claim the Simpson's as there own can find an explicit argument why the are right! by design?
its not missouri when bart took a road trip milhouse asked wat state is this and said missouri the only state not ran by flanders
Andrew, I grew up in Portland, and everyone knows that the Trojan Nuclear Power Plant was in Oregon, very near to Springfield. The Simpsons live in an unspecified state, but it is largely based on Oregon. As said above, many of the characters' names are those of Portland streets. The most humorous being "Lovejoy" where is located a famous abortion clinic, which makes it a funny name for a Reverend.
This clown Cut and pasted something he read somewhere else on the internet.. Can you say plagiarism? heres the link http://ask.yahoo.com/20060104.html
its either they live in kentucky or they just like toying with kentucky. 7 th sewason 'lisa the igneologist"(or something like igtheologist) the ghost of George Washington says "We had quitters in the revolution too we called them kentuckians'. Also in a more recent episode where the simpsons go to pick up Mr. Burns car but it crashes and they ask an old italian lady how to get to the mayor (who they soon find out is sideshow bob!) Homer hands her a gift mug that kentuck on it and she says in my language kentucky means whore!!!!
It is definately Kentucky, they subtly said this on numerous occasions.
Actually Groening confirmed it was Oregon so... yeah
I think the live in California. This season, Kent Brockman mentioned that he was above the 405, which an bypass interstate in the LA area.
There's a 405 in Portland, Oregon too.
i just watched it it was noy brockman but snake who said he seen a traffic jam at the 101 and 405 exchance which is san diego and ventura exchange in california that is why am on this sight
They dont actually live in a specific state. Look on wikipedia, the writers just make up where they live to fit the story lines. Their actually geographical location changes every episode.
you're right
You are so right!
I saw an epsiode where homer's at the DMV and if you use your dvd player freeze frame, Homer's license says, Springflied NY, it was one of the earlier epsiodes not season one, it was a while ago i noticed it and iam relooking thur my seasons to find the episode.
its NT north Takoma
its the truth they dont live in a specific state because it always changes. and they also live in north takoma
isnt takoma a city in washington? think about it.
I'm going to say this as slowly and clearly as possible...TV writers have a sense of humor. These people ARE in comedy for crying out loud. The writers of the Simpsons will change all these so called "clues" so all you little kids with nothing better to do will try to figure out this big mystery. Bottom line is they're messing with us----you'll never know the truth because you wont accept it--that is--there is no real location----Matt made it all up--The plant--the mountains--shelbyville--springfield--the snow--the hurricanes--the large body of water---it's all bullshit--it's called pretend retards
hey tard its not that we dont have anything better to its just fun to try and we do have better stuff to do like make fun of monster tards like u
Go on...
I know what state The Simpsons live in!!! In the episode when Homer becomes the garbage man there are garbage trucks in the background shuvaling the waste under ground and the trucks going by clearly say CHICAGO in black writing! There for they live in Chicago.
here's to all you who don't know where the simpsons tuly live. they live in springfield, IL. if any1 of you remember the episode when Lisa joins that nerd squad, and they get to run the city cuz quimby left. they showed that springfield (the 1 they lived in) was in the top 300 most beautiiful cities in america, and the state that was clearly right next to it was IL. so for sure they live in springfield Illonois!
two things wrong to his, one... chicago is not a state and for a god given fact, they live in SPRINGFEILD! You might mean near chicago, such as springfeild illinois
I know what state The Simpsons live in!!! In the episode when Homer becomes the garbage man there are garbage trucks in the background shuvaling the waste under ground and the trucks going by clearly say CHICAGO in black writing! There for they live in Chicago.
Chicago isn't a state artard.
Hahahah, so worth reading to thisĀ°
Isn't that the episode where they decide to make money by letting all of the nearby cities and states dump their garbage there, then they had to move the city down the road?
The Chicago truck could have just been there to drop off their junk.

You are all right. Springfield is a compilation of many towns. Instead of arguing where Springfield is, we should simply share clues to each state for people to make their own decisions.
thatstrue but in one episode, it showeda map of every state that they were banned from and the onl 2 that werent crossed of were North Dakota and Illinois
Hey The simpsons live any where caust in the episode where home and marge break up and she finds that guy who likes manatees the manatees where florda manatees
They live in upstate New York, lots of clues lead to this conclusion. 1)Pricipal Skinner mentioned a saying that he learned in "upstate New York". 2)When Springfield was mentioned as a growing city they mention " Watch out Utica", which is a dying city in upstate New York. 3) The mascot of the Springfield baseball team is the same as a Syracuse minor league mascot. When Lisa wrote in a essay contest they pan throughout the country and the essay before Lisa was a kid from Queens, then they pan further upstate then Lisa speaks. They mention that Capital City is 45 min. from Springfield which means they are located somewhere 45 min. form Albany, NY, the capital of New York State.
but in the episode where marge gets amnisia homer get a package of steaks and the camera looks at the address
in season six homer is talking to little joey and they say "we'll make it to california someday" so it cant be california
i know that its not these states:utah, california, texas, alaska, hawaii, maine
they live in illinois in the paper they compared the springfield,il school and power plant to the simpsons school and power plant they looked the same
Springfield Virginia...on one of the episodes they go on vacation and give the mileage to their destination....the only springfield that matched the mileage was in virginia
DONT READ ANY OTHER COMMENT! ITS ALL BULLSHIT! there is no state. its been left open so they can play w/ it! there r more than 71 springfeild citys around the country. theyre always insinuating that they live in a diff state. makes it easier to create nonsense. since none of u could seem to come up w/ a definate answer.... u think it would be OBVIOUS??
http://watchthesimpsonsonline.com/movie/58-The%20Simpsons%201310%20Half%20Decent%20Proposal.html This page will show a episode with a map of springfield in "The Simpsons 1310 Half Decent Proposal" Thay live in Texas.
They tell you it's Kentuky in the episode 'behind the laughter', try and keep up;)
You're all a bunch of fools... The Simpsons are from everywhere in an attempt to appeal to the largest cross-section possible. Trust me, they never dreamed that the cerebrally challenged would actually debate the origins of an animated family... LOL
The Simpsons don't live in any known state, because in one episode Lisa points out that West Springfield (right next to Springfield) is twice the size of Texas!!!
I FUCKING FOUND IT! Episode 1909 "Eternal moonshine of the simpson mind" At the intro, it zooms out from the couch to an overview of America. The answer: Springfield Illinois.
Okay its easy! They have to live in a northern state, where they get snow, there is a beach and they allow the death penelty. Now there are alot of eliminations due to the episodes. Some were Texas, Hawaii, Nevada, California but im not listing them all. Lots of people assumed Ohio due to when marge said when she says her state "O-Hio Maude" and since they had a Springfield and Shellbyville but this is not the case. I stummbled on something in the Simpsons Movie. It says the BORDERING STATES are Maine Ohio Nevada Kentuky pfft that leaves a porshin of the country. That got rid of Ohio. Therefore The only elligable state left is Illinois.
I have narrowed it down to two States:
Oregon and Connecticut. I am now almost sure though that it is Oregon.
the simpsons live in eatern missouri. i just watched the episode where homer is in charge of spring shield and he gives the phone number and the area code is 636. i win
In the Behind The Laughs episode it does say Northern Kentucky which does have a springfield
the simpsons live in Springfield,Oregon
I have seen the epsode were she says that also.So therefor that meens that there is a state sringfield is in they wouldnt lie to us.
remember that episode where they are trying to recover their lemon tree. They had to cross from Springfield into Shelbyville. Well i looked on a map and it appears that a Shelbyville borders Springfield in the state of Missouri. go to www.mapquest.com and see for yourself. i think this is a solid conclusion.
It'll be a cold day in hell before Grandpa recognizes Missoura!
again, there is an episode that says springfield is 1000 miles from Branson. Can't be Missouri.
Another way to think about it is which city then would be "capital city"
Springfield is the Capital of IL, a Capital airport resides there as well, there ya have it.
the city is obviously not big enough to be the one in illinois. and plus there is a springfield in about half the states. i was told that it is based off a little town in nevada and that what i think.
Actually Capital City is the name of the capital of their state. in the Simpsons movie they planned to blow up the Springfield of the Simpsons, and they give the location "South of Capital City, and Just eat of Shelbyville"
There is a Simpson's episode that goes "Behind the Laughs"; towards the end, the narrator says the Simpson's live in the state of Kentucky
its "Behind the Laughter".. and if I'm not misaken, they say "This northern Kentucky family" not that they live in Northern Kentucky. They implied that they were FROM.. key word being FROM.. Northern Kentucky. They didnt say that they currently lived in Northern Kentucky..... I have every episode and have watched every one of them several times over.. Im a fountain of useless information. ;)..
it's impossible to own every single episode. only seasons 1-7 have been released
Impossible? Ever hear of Torrentspy, Bittorrent, Torrentbox, or RobotoLabs? Nothing is impossible w/ the aid of technology. I DO have every episode. Don't doubt my posts. Also I forgot... Mr. Burns is a grad from Yale which is also in CT... remember the epiosde "Burns Baby Burns"... Well... Rodney Dangerfield was the voice of Burns Son.. He was concieved in Peabody Museum, in New Haven CT. Mr Burns is also leaving a trainstation in the same episode and at the bottom of the screen it says "New Haven, CT"... supporting my theory that the writers have a connection to Connecticut.
lol...then you don't own ALL, you own SOME and STOLE the rest! don't deny it...
you are very funny. I esp like the fountain of useless info line. I have to agree with you. After reading many useless blogs on -line I am convinced it's oregon or ct.
i have been dying to no where the simpsons truly live, but it almost seems impossible since there are so many clues which later turn out to be false. but Kentucky? why would Matt groening's siumpsons be in kentucky?
yes, but in that epside were the narrator says the simspson are from kentucky, they play sitcom tv actors, outside the world of the regular simpsons we know from the show, except from that spoof episode, and thus this episode shouldn't be taken as a fact.
Springfield Oregon, outside Eugene.
bitches, they live in oregon. duh!
I wouldn't be so confident, none of the clues seem to point in that direction.
hello morons they live in illinois two reason 1. there is a springfield in illinois and there is a sheblyville in IL
2. and in the episode when skinner asked where your wedding ring hommer said i therw it in lake micagin
There was an episode where Homer is teaching Apu(i think apu) about springfield or something(I'm no simpsons expert so correct me if im wrong) and he has a map and points to springfield illinois and says something like "This is where we live." Lisa says that Homer was wrong and right as Bart's(or someone's) head moves in front of the camera, you hear Lisa say something like "That's Springfield." So they don't live in Illinois.
I'm not sure if this was how it went so feel free to correct me.
they cant live in illnois cuz in one episode they went to capital city- springfield in the capital of illinois but they cdont live in capital city
Illinois.
Springfield is the "Capital of IL", it is a small town. However the "Big City" is Chicago, aka The REAL Capital. It is three hours away. IL has nuclear power. Close access to Wisconsin and camping. We even have "Slacked Jawed Yokels". We have a Shelbyville. We also have Wayne's World and the Bears...sorry your jealous...no need to hate...just accept the facts.
NO IT ISN'T ILLINOIS
we are the fucking morons there is a springfeild in every state tard
lol, bitches? sorry it isnt oregon smart guy.
My guess judging by what I've read people say on here, plus some clues from episodes I have seen on my own, that they either live in Missouri or Conneticut (sp?). I'm from Canada and don't know the states that well. But, I do know that whatever state it is that they live in, they do have the death penalty...apparently if you follow the clues you can figure it out. I remember in what episode when Marge was giving her address to Vincent Price for the missing feet on the egg game, she was saying "Springfield...O-Hiya Maude", so I thought maybe Ohio, but I am guessing judging from what was said about Shelbyville and Springfield that Missouri is a good guess, but my thought is still Conneticut...I don't know which states have the death penalty.
ok i checked the states that allow the death pentalty and there are 34 states so i thought id never get it ...UNTIL i started reading the citie's they performed it n each state and springfield illonois has been performing the death pentalty since 1818 and it is the only srpingfield listed......maybee this leads nowhere but im pretty happy with what i found
they have to live somewhere up in the north east. Barney in one episode drove homer's car to nyc in one night
i believe that most clues lead to ohio(which is close enough to nyc)
in the episode where springfield riots and Homer becomes a security guard (then the chief of police) he does a commercial with a phone number at the bottom, which is an area code in missouri.
that's a pretty good clue. Is the number looking real or just a missouri number by chance.
1000 miles from Branson...cannot be Missouri
David Silverman-former director of the simpsons series- said they lived in the fictional state of North Takoma. In the episode where homer gets his license suspended for driving barney home while drunk from the brewry, freze frame the scene where the judge looks at his license and for a split second, you see he lives in Springfeild NT.But I say they livED because there have been many hints and references for a LONG,LONG time.
Watch "drawn together" "a tale of two cows", I think its season 2 episode 10 - theres a cross-feed during a news show to Springfeild CT outside a destroyed Simpsons house - all done in typical simpsons style drawing. Very quickly done and quite interesting to note how they name the state - perhaps the writers etc knew? or another random throw off.....
oops shouldve posted this at the bottom....my bad
I think they live in Missouri because they seem go to branson on a bus to find grandpa in one episode. Also capital city could be reffering to Jefferson city. Plus there is a springfield and shelbyville there. Grandpa says ill be deep in the cold ground before i acknowledge missouri
In the Branson episode Lisa says that Branson is 1000 miles away. She is not one to be inaccurate or exaggerate.
Homer starts Springshield Security and in the TV ad he made for it the phone number is has a 636 area code.636 area code is Missouri. Springfield Missouri is in the south west corner of Missouri and its not too far from Branson Missouri where Grandpa Simpson take Bart to find Zelda the stone cold hoochie.
i just started reading all of the info on this page becuz i myself am wondering where they live but and when i saw the info about the 636 area code i was sure you had it but when i researched it theres a problem i noticed that area code was changed from 314 to 636 on may 1999 and the show has ran way longer than 99 so basicly im confused
I have a Quetion for you all, I live in the Sate of Queensland thats in Australia for any of you who didnt know that, i live near a springield but thats not the one thier in, however, there is that episode where springfeild split into 2 area codes, would that be to thow us all out? did it change back?
Does it bother anyone that we are all sitting here debating a cartoon???
LOL. this is probably the wisest thing ANYONE has said!!! GREAT!!
all the time, but it really doesn't stop me. No, i'm too curious.
Convincing posts narrow it down to Orgegon, Missouri, and Connecticut in my opinion. Can someone tell me if there are snow-crested mountains in Missouri or Connecticut? There are many episodes with hilly/mountainous terrain. Also of the three states can anyone tell me which has the death penalty?
In season 8 Springfield was hit by a hurricane, so probably not Missouri.
What about the episode where Granpa and Bart steel Homers car and follow Zelda to Branson MO? When Homer, Marge, Lisa and Maggie go after them, Marge says it's 1000 miles to Bronson.
There is no Springfield in CT. They all have the death penalty.
Matt grew up in Portland Oregon, so I think it's Springfield Or.
what about the episode where they move the town? So it could have changed. What season was that and what clues belong to what?
They only move 5 miles down the road. It's still Springfield.
In Treehouse of Horror VI, when the giant statues all fall over and smash up the buildings, one of the buildings that gets destroyed says "Birthplace of Norman Vincent Peale." If you do a wikipedia search, you'll find that he was a Christian preacher and author (most notably of The Power of Positive Thinking), and was born in Browersville, Ohio. If you check on Mapquest, you'll find that in Ohio there is not only a Browersville, but also a Springfield, which is, according to Mapquest, a short trip away of only 26.17 miles. I think that, coupled with the "Springfield...O-Hiya Maude" quote posted above by Anonymous, would show that the Simpsons do, infact, live in Ohio.
If you can remember back to when Apu was getting his citizenship, you will remember that Lisa pooints to where they live on the map, and her body is covering the eastern part of the US. Go from there, it limits which states they could live in.
Some of you are close, others are way way off! I found it with only these clues to go by; #1.)Springfield. #2.)they live in a town in the five(5) corners area. When you spot it you will know where they live.
but they visited the five corners area while going on vacation, so you never no how far away from there house they were
The place where they live is NOT Springfield! It is only a clue. I will tell you this; Five corners is a geographical location. Can you name the four states in the southwest that make up the "four corners region?" Five corners is very similar. Then go back to your first clue. The first clue is not only Springfield but Shelbyville also. On all 5 corners! Get a road atlas. Look at your own clues! Have a good time hunting for it, you will be surprised when you find it. Good Luck, Jeff
You seem pretty arrogant and sure of yourself on this, and maybe just a little bit condescending. If you're so sure of your answer and can prove your idea 100%, then why don't you enlighten the rest of us? Or are you really not that confident in your answer? I think the truth is that you are merely speculating just like everyone else on here, and you have no more figured it out than anybody else. Go ahead...give us your best guess, then explain why you're right and we're wrong. Tell us what your conclusion is, and prove it. It seems like everyone else has at least put forth their conclusions with whatever they have to back it up. My bet is that you're just spouting hot air, trying to seem like you're so much smarter than every body else, and you really don't have any more of a clue than anyone else on this page.
Ha Ha, nice try. If you took the time L00king instead of writing letters you would know too.
Did you see my reply on July 21st? That reply and all the other replys are why no one will find where the Simpson's live. All you people want to do is have someone like me TELL YOU where it is. You don't want to work for it. If you look for it where I said, omg it's so obvious. And..if I just told you then you would sigh and say "are you kidding? That's sooo easy" So...if you're too lazy to look for it, then, oh well. Just keep talking and guessing. gl hf
Oh yes, just as I suspected. You've gotten a power trip over the fact that you think you know something no one else does. You're so smart because you've figured out something that the rest of us haven't. Yet you can't tell anyone else your secret because then: 1) You loose your position as the one with the cosmic wisdom, and you can't rub it in anyones face anymore to get your thrills, and 2) You loose your credibility when everyone realizes that you don't actually know anything. What would you really loose by sharing your conjecture with everyone else? Personally, I don't really care, because I have reached my own conclusion, which I can back up with solid facts. So it doesn't really matter to me what you think. I just don't understand why you're so afraid to voice your conclusion, and I think you need to stop being so condescending if you're so unsure of your conclusion that you can't share with the rest of the group. The whole point of a page like this is to share your views, what you've discovered, what you think the truth is, and why. Posting on a page like this with your attitude of "I know something you don't know, and it's so obvious, I can't believe the rest of you can't figure it out," just makes you an ass. Like I said, I really don't care what your viewpoint is unless you're willing to share it and provide supporting arguement as to why it's valid. Other than that, if you're not going to add anything constructive and your sole purpose is to taunt everybody else with your preschool game of "I know a secret," maybe you should go somewhere else. If, on the other hand, you care to share your beliefs on where "The Simpsons" live, then please, be my guest. I love exposing myself to viewpoints that differ from mine, as long as the other person is willing to state their idea and back it up. If you can grow up to an adult level of conversation, then go ahead and get back to me. Otherwise, quit trying to bring everybody down and stay out of the conversation.
Oh, by the way, I also wanted to add that, yes, I have infact read your post on July 21st. I should point out that saying that "The place where they live is NOT Springfield! It is only a clue," is absolutely retarded. They have blatantly stated throughout the show that the family lives in Springfield. The city is not the question, it is the state in which the city of Springfield lies that is up for debate here. The kids go to Springfield Elementary, Homer works at the Springfield Nuclear Power Plant, etc. Every single mention of the city gives its name as Springfield. Unless you care to prove a differing view point, and explain why everybody works and goes to school and does every other major event in a random town named Springfield, which they DO NOT live in according to you, then I have no choice besides persisting in my belief that you really don't have any more of an idea than anyone else, and probably have even less of an idea. There is no other reason why you would come to such a huge revelation, and then not share it, unless you are either being an ass, or you really don't know what you're talking about.
WOW!! You sure told me off.
So now you have figured it out!!
You said, "they blantantly stated throughout the show that the family lives in Springfield" and that "the city is not the Question, but the state." So now you don't have to do anything else. You got the answer! Good job.
Although Springfield is in every state in the union, why would there be a question of "where do they live?" And why would we waste our time on this, if they lived in Springfield? I'm sorry you're an ass and have to have an answer immediatly. You can't figure out clues and DO something?
Dude, you obviously didn't read my post. Go ahead, take a few minutes and read it again. Specifically the part where I emphasize that it is the STATE and not the CITY that is in question. I guess you missed that part in your haste to write back to tell me I'm wrong. Oh well. I don't feel like wasting any more of my time with you on this. You obviously don't want to participate in the discussion, and instead you just want to keep telling everyone else their wrong and you're right, rather than actually stating your point. Whatever. You win, if that makes you happy. You're right, whatever your answer is. Do you feel justified now? Probably not. I'm done with this now, because if you still haven't gotten my point by now, then I'm just wasting my breath. So, go ahead, and think whatever you want. I'm giving in to your superior intellect, because you've proven me wrong without even stating your view point. Whatever. If that makes you happy, then fine, be happy. I'm obviously having a one sided conversation with someone who can't even understand (or doesn't actually read) my posts, and who won't venture forth his viewpoint for the good of the conversation. So, have a nice day, and forget I ever wrote anything to you. I'm not wasting anymore time on someone who can't even hold a logical intelligent conversation. So, when you write back to tell me how wrong I am, and how I'm the loser for not taking time to "figure out clues and DO something," because I know you're going to write back...don't be surprised if you don't hear from me again, because I'm done with this. Please, go ahead and think whatever you want, you won because you proved me wrong...whatever you feel is true in your heart. I don't care.
Quite an immature loss of control with those posts dude, take a chill pill or get laid. Im sad to see hatred coming out of such a entertaining and halarious show. You disgrace the simpsons with these ignorant ramblings.
GOD YOU ARE A WHINER
QUOTE Marge Simpson
"Sringfeild is a part of us all, a part of us all, a part of us all."
a part of US All...so a part of the USA...and ll can be percieved as IL...
Jeff, if you're talking about Salt Lake City...NO!
Is it really so hard to believe that this place they live is made up? its a cartoon. It seems to me that there are many different clues pointing different directions...which leads me to believe that there is no one place they live. you can't say, they have mountains and water so lets forget that they live near I-95. you have to take all the clues in and when you do that, you get many different places in order to cause confusion and keep interest in the show. Notice this gives us something to talk about??? we aren't talking about the last crappy episode, we are debating this instead. (keep in mind i am a simpsons fanatic, so no episode is really crap, but it has gone downhill)
^This.
When Homer is working at the Gulp-n-blow or something like that you can clearly see on the drive through sighn "Beer"
This would help eliminate the fact that they couldn't live in a state that prohibits the sale of alacholic beverages at any other place besides bars and liquir stores.
Ex: NJ, DE, MD and more :)
I find it hard to believe that something this trivial would help account for their whereabouts
From just watcing the first episode of season 17, it shows that Marge is in south springfield, which borders the coast, meaning it must be in the south district, and from other convincing posts, I'd have to say the south east.
Watching another recent episode from season 17, they also sing 'Sweet Home Alabama', for no apparant reason, another clue?
it could be Maryland, Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Maine, Nevada, Oregon, because it is a state where its leagal to use marjhwana for medicinal use
its not for 'for no apparent reason' ready for this the reason ould be that it is a good song
I'm not going to say I've got an answer, as I don't think anyone should. But I'm throwing my vote in there for "it's a fictional place". I want to believe Springfield is in Ohio, my homestate, but see too many clues that say it is elsewhere. Largest clue I ever saw was while leaving Springfield to go on a trip the Simpsons turned onto I-95. There is a possibility that in the 3 seconds from leaving Springfield to when the turned onto I-95 they actually travelled across the country from Oregon to the East Coast, but I doubt this is true. But some people are correct with some lesser clues leading elsewhere. This is why my two top choices for location are the following. Sorry there is no definite answer.
1) Fictional Place
2) Easton Coast somewhere
I heard somewhere that interstates with odd numbers such as I-95 run north to south while even numbers such as I-80 run east to west, not sure if that helps anything, but when you think of highways and where they may lead it should help
Hummm.. lets see here is a fact youse dont seam to knotice, what ever City they come from the people are yellow an only have 4 fingers . i dont mean to sound stupid but this springfeild cant be on earth
the CHARACTERS are fictional...the PLACE, however, *might* be real...
well, that was kinda stupid.
especially when the go to America Town to eat while in Japan, and how Homer chants USA! randomly.
Like i said before, each and every clue conflicts with all the others, and this is just a trick to keep the show being talked about. there is no answer to this question, and if you think there is you are wasting your time.
I'm honestly mildly amused at the amount of brainpower people are putting into trying to piece this puzzle together. Especially considering that most of these clues are red herrings and no one conclusion can possibly be reached by the evidence given so far. Just another testament to the genius of the show as far as I'm concerned XD
I find that hard to believe considering it's one of the most popular shows, ever. In addition what the producer (?) or someone else said about it being easy if you look at the clues, same as to what Lisa said in the episode 'Blame it on Lisa'
you disagree that all the clues conflict with one another?
If you look on youtube, best simpsons opening ever, when they get to the couch, the camera draws back heading above their house, above the city, the US, the world...etc...In that opening, they are in the mid west, near Illinois.
Some clues conflict, but the majority suggest the south and east coast, I'm starting to believe Texas is the home.
It can't be Texas, because in the Christmas episodes there is always a ton of snow.
what about the pot bellied sparrow being the state bird and the state pasta being bow tie? these suggest an imaginary city. especially since west springfield is 3 times the size of texas.
Some things like that are just blaitent jokes, others are clearly clues as to where they really live.
The problem arises when a substantial amount of fans confuse those blatant jokes for actual evidence. I see a lot of that on this thread, actually.
they live nowhere!!! why don't you get it!?!?
